Oh, my word, His Word!

My sweet momma was a teaching leader for a Bible Study Fellowship Class for many years. She influenced me in countless ways because of her commitment to her ministry—and the…

If three practical steps to deal with your problem aren’t all that practical …

Some day, pain is coming for you. When it does, you will find that advice, no matter how sound or sincere, is hollow or even a little preachy. The Sunday school answers sound formulaic and don’t at all satisfy, but it’s not appropriate for you to set everyone else straight. They don’t get it; you endure it.

A Hissy Fit and Trust Issues

“It’s pretty much useless for me to do anything,” I wailed pitifully. Our CRV crept through the pedestrian stripes in front of Walmart, my husband, the good Rev, at the…

The Nagging Question

“I just don’t know why God led us here,” my friend said wearily. “Why did He put us through this?” I’m flopped on my bed, door shut, lights off, phone…

I held a baby today . . .

I held a baby today. That’s not a big deal, right? It is. For a moment it’s unfamiliar—the lightness of a newborn, his head worked up into the curve of…

Sin much? Love much.

“You need to start praying that God will show you the depth of your sin.” Her words hung in the air for a moment. It didn’t sting like it does…

Bought With a Price

Years ago at a bible study, I learned something about Jesus’ last moments on the cross that I had never heard before. Jesus’ declaration moments before death, the Greek word…

That’s the devil’s game.

I had a revelation this morning when my Bible fell open to this page. I shared with my small group last night that I’d been angry with God since we…

We went hiking in Jasper this weekend, which admittedly is more our thing than the girls'. Yesterday we needed a 4X4 on some random county road we ended up exploring. The girls kept asking, "Where is daddy taking us???" Emma Kate figured it out--"To our death." Kind of. We got out to look the rock formations that we'd driven all the way out there to see and were promptly swarmed by all manner of bugs. This is a death of sorts for poor EK.
I offloaded a bunch of photos from an old memory card, and I'm undone by how cute my kids are. Dang.
Celebrate then sleep. Well, there was a lot of food, too. 😁
The weather is an assault on Christmas. An atrocity! I want White Christmas and I get soaked and soggy. We remedied this horrific state of affairs with a delish nacho bar for dinner and now a Christmas movies. It’s all good. ❤️
New post on theclingysoul.com (link in profile). Advent Day 9: Isaiah 11:1-10, The Reign of Peace. "The violent and the victim come together for worship, and they are completely at peace with one another. Jesus' reign, having been initiated by grace and forgiveness at the cross, will be one of unimaginable peace."
A new Advent post is up on theclingysoul.com (link in profile). Merry Christmas! "Barrenness had been Sarah’s identity for all her married life. When God repeated his promise to Abraham over the years, she surely felt persecuted. His plan for Abraham—and the rather lengthy timeline--highlighted her shame and failure. Then she made a mess of things by bringing Hagar into the picture. But the LORD was gracious to her. We don’t just see God’s grace in the birth of this child—He included Sarah in the promise. He gave her a role in accomplishing His purpose, to redeem the world through His Son Jesus."
My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:8
